Birdcage
2006
Cliffhanger, Hoxton Hall, Shoreditch, London
Installation, performance, audio, budgie
I came across a broken bird ornament balancing on the seat of a cream Vespa in an alley. A birdcage, a fixed or portable prison of wire. An ornament used to adorn embellish and beautify. The audience were invited to watch as a peculiar character / figment of the imagination / internal creature engaged in a private game (re-sticking and re-positioning broken bird ornaments). A site-specific (Victorian theatre) installation interrupted periodically by a durational (1 hour 15 minute) performance.
